Any number of people can play!

You will need

  • access to a colour printer
  • scissors and clear tape (ideally plastic free!)
  • a dice
  • a marker for each player (e.g. tiddlywink, small pebble, or coin)

What is the game?

Our game is a traditional dice and squares game, but with the consequences for landing on certain squares relating to our need to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and get global warming and climate change under control.

It’s fun to play a simple dice game with friends and family, but at the same time we hope that the serious messages about CO2 and global warming will make everyone think about how important the subject is.

  • each player chooses a counter
  • place all the counters on the START square
  • each player throws the dice once, the highest score goes first to start the game
  • player 1 throws the dice and counts and moves along the squares according to the throw
  • player 1 reads out and takes any actions written on the square (s)he lands on
  • once the turn is complete, the dice is passed to player two, and so on
  • the first player to arrive at the FINISH square is the winner!
  • the actions in the squares should be self-explanatory, but if there is any dispute or query, the oldest player is the arbiter

Why is this an eco-action

This is important because it’s a way of encouraging people – especially youngsters who engage easily with dice games – to think about the consequences of greenhouse gas emissions, global warming and climate change.

We all need to be aware of what is happening around us if we are to have any chance of changing it!

Take action

Please print and play the game, and then do let us know what you think about it and how you get on!

Have fun, but take the opportunity to learn too!
